About Regional Directorate

The activities of Workers Education in Bhopal and adjacent areas were started in 1965 as a Sub Regional Centre (SRC) under Regional Directorate, Indore (MP). Considering emerging needs the SRC was upgraded to a full-fledged Regional Directorate to cover 07 districts in and around Bhopal and started its functioning on 14th June 1999.

This directorate caters to the needs of Tribal, Tailoring, Bidi, Handicraft, Agricultural and Daily workers in informal sector while in formal sector the concentration of Engineering, Power, Spinning, Automobile and mining workers is high. The major clients in the organized sector are BHEL, Railways, Defense, Electricity Board, Western Coalfields Limited, HEG etc. though the scope in organized sector is not very high due to lack of further industrialization & expansion in the region.

This directorate was selected as one of the four in the country for conducting an intervention programme on HIV with forest workers by ILO and was recognized internationally.
