About Regional Directorate

The Regional Directorate of DTNBWED was established in 1975 to implement W.E programmes in the seven districts of North Bengal & the state of Sikkim consisting of four districts. The Tea industry is the biggest industry besides railways and agrarian /unorganized sectors of the region. The tea industry has about two lakhs fifty thousand workers and about ten thousand railway workers are there in the region. About fifteen lakhs agricultural/unorganized sector workers are there in North Bengal & the state of Sikkim which falls under North East India along with other seven states under the North East Council of Govt. of India, The New Jalpaiguri Junction is the nearest Railway Station and Bagdogra Air port is the main airport of the region. Darjeeling district H.Q is about 85 K.M and Gangtok the state capital of Sikkim is about 145 K.M away from the Regional Directorate of DTNBWED, Siliguri Chapter.
